Local Places to Eat

January 2017

We have lots of great places to eat locally, pubs, restaurants and takeaway outlets. some less than 10 minutes drive away .Most of these now serving mainly locally sourced produce. Just 3 miles away in nearby Garstang, there are also Chinese, Indian and Italian takeaway shops. Mama Mia in Garstang will also deliver here to the cottages.

Our favourite at the moment is Quite Simply French in Lancaster. (www.quitesimplyfrench.co.uk) Takes us about 20/25 minutes to get there, but worth the drive.

Below is a list with an estimated time it should take to drive there. Taxis can be organised to take and collect and for casual eating, Guys Italian next to the canal at Bilsborrow. For breakfast/brunch whilst out walking with the dogs, the Applestore off Snowhill Lane and cherry scones at the Barn in Scorton.

If you don't want to cook breakfast, then the Applestore (not open Mondays and Tuesdays) the Barn (can sometimes be a bit of a wait, but the food is good once it arrives) at Scorton or Barton Grange garden centre on the A6.

For ice cream lovers, Wallings is an absolute must to visit. A huge variety of ice creams and they are enormous!!

The Barn at Scorton
This is one of the places that I used to walk the dogs to some mornings given the time. Its had a major transformation for Spring 2016 Very busy and sometimes a long wait for food.. Also a garden centre and gift shop with a huge variety of unusual things. A good place for coffee, scones (cherry scones are the best), cakes, afternoon teas and a really varied menu with an excellent choice of meals, including Sunday lunch. Has facilities for private functions and catering. Old fashioned tractor in front of the Barn, large car park to the rear. Would recommend booking in advance for groups. Tel. 01524 793533

The Apple Store

A bit further,10/15 minutes drive

Barton Grange Garden Centre, back down the A6 heading towards Preston. It's a huge award winning garden centre that also sells lots of other gift type things. There are two eating places, the Waterside cafe which does a good breakfast and a separate restaurant. Further down the A6 is the Barton Grange hotel, they have an eating place, the Courtyard restaurant, which does quite nice lunches and is more formal in the evening.
